
If you really think about it, a post dated check is not really a "Good check". It is "bad" until whatever date it has on it. So you in reality are accepting a "bad check" if you accept a post dated check.
The law states that if you do accept a post dated check, you must notify the writer of the check in writing, within 5 days of your intent to deposit this check.
It is not illegal in some states to solicit a post dated check from a customer who is past due but I would not recommend it. In Massachusetts state law forbids the solicitation of postdated checks. Check your local laws to make sure you are in compliance.
