Before you ever make your first collection call there are some things you should do.
Know what you can and can't do in regards to the FDCPA.
Research the account and the amount due, know what invoice or orders make up the balance.
Know the invoice number, date, the total amount that is due and the total amount that is past due, how many days past due that balance is, the customers payment history, details of the order and if there were any disputed items.
When the debtor asks you a question you need to answer immediately and with the facts. This is one way you stay in control of the call and collect more money.
Never pick up the phone and call someone for money when you don't have your facts in front of you. Be prepared for every and any question.
