How do I Collect from someone in the Military?
When you have a customer that is in the military that owes you money, what can you do?

When you cannot get a response from the customer in regards to the balance due, you can send a letter to their Commanding Officer to prompt the payment.  You cannot ask the officer to request payment but to remind the customer of his moral obligation.

To find out where to send your letter or who your customer's commanding officer is, check out these websites:

  • The Navy's World Wide Locator is a service established to find the present duty station of active duty personnel, and is for official business use only.  Family members, active duty personnel and Navy retirees may use this system. To do so you must have the service members full name, social security number, grade or rank and if possible, last known duty station. You can also write to them at:

Dear Michelle:

Isn't sending a letter to the Commanding Officer violating the FDCPA law. I will wait on your response before I follow this tip

Carolyn Collins

I also need the author of the Book on Skip-tracing (Manhunt)

Absolutely not UNLESS you divulge the debt details, THAT would be a violation.
Ron Brown is the author of Manhunt and will be speaking at the same conference I am in November in Las Vegas, the Collection Advisor Tech '07. I hope to see you there!

Sivam,
One of the first things you want to do is set up a credit policy so you have a guide to follow. Check out my blog posts under "Creating a Credit Policy" especially this one: http://www.bizcreditpolicy.com/2007/06/business_credit_for_beginners.html
I hope this helps! Good luck!
