The United States Government has introduced these new bills to help prevent fraud. The next time you have a $10 bill take this test to see if yours is real.
- Hold the bill up to the light, and look for a security thread or strip that is embedded in the paper and runs vertically to the right of the portrait. If you look really closely, you will see the words "USA TEN" and a small flag next to the thread from both sides of the bill. If you hold the bill under an ultra violet lgith, the thread will glow orange.
- Look at the number 10 in the lower right hand corner on the front of your bill. When you tilt the bill up and down the ink, which is color shifting ink, changes color from copper to green.
- Now hold your $10 bill up to the light and look for the watermark, or faint image, similar to the large image of Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton. A blank oval has been incorporated into the new $10 bill design to highlight the watermark's location.
