Know More: I have past due customers, what do I do?, MIlitary Collections, Making Collection Calls, Rent Collections, What makes a Good Collector?

From a buisness owner or credit managers point of view, a collection call is "just one more thing" you have to do and not a pleasant one at that.

Some tips to help you have more effective collection calls:

Schedule a regular time each day or week to make collection calls.
Have all account infromation on hand.
Leave messages but no not reveal it is about an unpaid bill.
Get the debtor to acknowledge the debt by asking if there was a question about the charge.
Offer to take a credit card for payment.
Ask when they will pay. WAIT FOR AN ANSWER.
Let them know you are documenting the commitment on their record.
