If you need to locate or find someone that owes you money, then that is called skip tracing. Most uncollected accounts are because a creditor did not try to locate someone in order to get paid. The phone was disconnected and the mail returned, so that account is tossed into the “dead” file. This person could be a working debtor with a new phone and address with funds available to pay this bill, but if you don’t try to find them and then try to collect, it won’t happen.
Business owners can skip trace themselves or hire someone to do it for them based on their resources. There are so many online ads that say, find this person or locate for free, I must warn you about them. If you are serious about finding the person, don’t waste your time on these free locates. Sometimes you may locate someone this way but you might end up wasting more time than the results will yield for you.
There are MANY places you can search for someone, some free and some paid. The paid websites are much better. You can also learn more about skip tracing by reading magazines or newsletters about skip tracing. There isn’t a lot available on this topic but I am working on expanding the education to all about skip tracing by offering new products, tele-seminars and workshops about skip tracing in the coming months.
